Types of Care

Choosing the right care home can sometimes be overwhelming – particularly if you’re not sure what type of care your loved one needs.

Our helpful and friendly teams are here to offer help and advice on the most appropriate type of care.

Whether it’s residential care for someone who is finding it increasingly difficult or lonely living in their own home, or someone who needs specialist EMI or dementia care, our home managers can offer guidance and support during a chat over a cup of tea.

Once the care requirements are clear they will guide you through the next steps whilst providing reassurance and a friendly ear during what can be, an emotional time.

What matters to you and your family, matters to us

Residential Care

Residential care offers older people support with day to day tasks including washing, cleaning or dressing while promoting independence and person-centred care to those who do not have needs that require specialist nursing or dementia care.

Dementia/EMI Care

The term EMI refers to older people who have mental health difficulties or frailties that includes Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. It is for people at the more advanced stages of dementia and who require specialist, 24-hour supervision and care in a secure and safe environment.

Specialist care

Respite / DayCare

The devoted care teams in our homes offer stays as short as a day and longer term respite care breaks, so you or your loved one can experience exceptional care and support for as long as you need us.

Respite & Day Care

The devoted care teams in our homes offer short stays and longer-term respite care breaks, so you or your loved one can experience exceptional care and support for as long as you need us.

What is elderly respite care?

Short-term respite breaks and temporary stays in residential care or nursing homes can provide:

a break for you and/or your carer

care while you recover from an illness or a stay in hospital

additional support if you are newly disabled

companionship and/or short-term support if you live alone that will enable you to continue to live independently

an opportunity to get to know a care home that suits your needs if you are thinking about a permanent move.

What does respite care include?

If you are having a short term break in one of our homes, you will receive the same care and support as our permanent residents. We will carefully assess your needs and create a detailed care plan to know what personal care you need, including help with administering medication.

You will have your own furnished bedroom. Our devoted staff will support you in every way, helping you to settle in and enjoy the companionship of others, take part in engaging activities, enjoy delicious home-cooked food and even launder your clothes.

Day care

Some older adults who live on their own can often spend long periods of time without any company. To them, our day care centres give them an opportunity to get out and meet people. They can help people to establish a new social circle, which can lead to lasting friendships.

If someone is interested in day care, a member of our dedicated team
will come and meet them in their home, to find out more about who they are, what they enjoy and their needs. For example, someone may have dementia and may find reminiscence activities really therapeutic, or another client may use a wheelchair and need a little more practical assistance.

With a taster day, you can have a sneak preview of what you can enjoy, to see if it’s for you.

At our homes, we offer morning, afternoon and full-day sessions. Local elderly people can enjoy a wide range of activities tailored to what they enjoy doing as well as trying something new. The sessions are flexible to people’s choices, whether you fancy a particular morning each week or would like to come along every day.

Meet the Manager

James McGoverin

I lead my professional Care Team in delivering the highest level of care and support for our residents. My commitment to professional development has equipped me well for my role here, where I work hard to ensure that those in my care lead happy and fulfilling lives, whilst maintaining choice over the care and support they receive.

I believe in maintaining strong relationships with residents and their relatives, and understand the important contribution that these relationships make to the successful running of a care home.

I feel that the Tides Care Groups philosophy matches up well with my own beliefs on care provision and I am committed to ensuring that all our residents continue to receive the high levels of care and protection they deserve. Cloisters Ethos is to care for all our residents as if they were are own family.

Meet the Team
